When I started my soccer life, I had no idea how many trainings/games I would play. In fact, not until recently did I ever think that there would be sort of a “finish line” to how many games I would play. But instead of thinking of how many more, I have changed my mind set into, how well do I want to play the trainings/games I have left? Because I have no idea how many more trainings/games/years I have left. I don’t even know if I will ever start a game this season. But it doesn’t matter because each experience I have is mine to enhance. My new WPS FC Gold Pride professional career to date has been awesome. I enjoy going to training, and sometimes more than the games. I know that sounds crazy. It is a bit crazy to write it. It’s not that I don’t love the games (especially home games because it is a great place to play AND we have the BEST fans), I just LOVE training. I love trying to be better (some days that comes off, some days it doesn’t). Maybe it’s because pressure in games can do things to people that just doesn’t exist in training. That is not to say that training isn’t full of pressure. Players are trying to make the travel squad or make the starting 11, score that elusive goal, save that unreachable shot. I love being in a place where I just want to enjoy each moment and make every second count. I think that is the message of this blog. None of us know how many more games, recitals, years we have left, SO let’s make the most of it. If you don’t feel you are doing your best, change it. If you are doing your best, feel good about it. If there are people around you that aren’t pulling their weight, let them know that they are as responsible as the next person for not only their success, but that of the team. Give hi fives, pats on the back, words of support, it goes a long way. Find a way to extend beyond what you think are your responsibilities and assist those around you. My grandfather gave me a lesson that has stuck with me since I was a little soccer player. He would reward me with 1 scoop of ice cream when I scored a goal but he would reward me with 2 scoops when I gave an assist on a goal. He made me realize that there is great pleasure that comes from helping others. So tomorrow at training, I am going to do my best to assist my teammates to be sharp so when we play LA Sol at Santa Clara University’s Buck Shaw Stadium (my favorite place to play soccer in the world) on Sunday May 24th 4pm (fox soccer channel game of the week) we will be ready to turn up the heat and put the game away. Be Real!
Cheers,
Brandi
