Well, the outcome of the game wasn’t what we would have liked against the Skyblue FC. Nevertheless, I was able to spend time with some awesome girls before the game. They made me their honorary assistant coach. Here are some some pictures that they sent. I’ll cherish the memories of watching Gemma and her teammates! Oh, and I also got to meet a really cute 4 year old whose parents named her Chastain. How cool is that?

Hi SoccerMom14,
I am sorry to hear about the diagnosis on your daughter’s back, but I am THRILLED that you have a daughter who knows what she wants and has a PLAN how to make it happen. So many people would throw up their hands and ask why me? Your daughter will be an inspiration, to herself, her team and all girls who are aspiring to be something more than just mediocre. I wish I could lead you in the direction of another female athlete who suffered a similar diagnosis, BUT there is an athlete in tennis, James Blake, who also had the same diagnosis then had a neck injury. He found a way to get himself back on the court, and I am sure that it was due to good doctors, therapists and ultimately HARD WORK. I wish your daughter the best and I hope that she will find being on the sideline will afford her a chance, as it did for me the times I was injured and rehabbing, how to learn the game from the coaching perspective, as well as be the best support system a teammate could ask for. The time at first will seem slow, but in retrospect, will be quick and a great learning experience. BE STRONG. Please write us back and give us the updates. Your friend, Brandi #6

Soccermom14:
I read your comment about your daughter’s injury. I can 100% understand what both of you have to go through. I turned 20 a couple months ago and last August I went through major reconstructive surgery to my lumbar spine. I fractured a couple discs and they had to stabilize the area through a fusion surgery, so I have a few titanium plates and a bone graft from my hip permanently in my spine. I played club division 1 for almost 9 years and I played collegiate soccer for 2 seasons before my injury. Ive been told I can play soccer again, but not competitively. Its awesome to hear that she is already looking forward to post op. The surgery will be pretty tough but staying positive is the hardest part of the battle. If you have any questions I would be glad to try and answer them to the best of my ability. The good thing about soccer is that there are so many ways to be involved, but I know to a teenager being on the sidelines never sounds like fun. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
