How To Celebrate National Physical Fitness And Sports Month

Brandi and I have been knocking our heads together trying to find a way to best encourage kids to WANT to make healthy choices for themselves. We thought about our own lives.  One thing that we learned early on was that we were happiest when we were active. What activity made us happiest? PLAYING made us happiest. It almost didn’t matter what sport or activity we did. Many of you may think Brandi spent her entire childhood developing her soccer skills. Yes, she fell in love with soccer and spent a lot of time with her soccer ball. She also, however, played many sports. Why? Because they were fun!
For me, I would watch other kids doing something and picture myself doing it. I always pictured myself doing it well. I didn’t allow myself to be embarrassed that I couldn’t do it as well as others. I only cared that I was having fun.

So, kids, here is the magic formula…. drum roll please…....HAVE FUN AND PLAY!

It doesn’t matter whether you play a game or an organized sport; fun has to be the main ingredient. Just like checking out the list of ingredients on a box of cereal, the most important ingredient is listed first. Whenever you take on an activity, make sure that fun is your 1st ingredient.
So, here is your homework assignment:
Ride a bike, go for a swim, climb the monkey bars, hula hoop, dance, skateboard, snowboard, ski, skate, jump rope, play dodge ball, basketball, soccer, tennis, go for a walk or hike. You see, it doesn’t matter. Find something where you have fun while moving and do it!
Play is contagious… pass it on!!!
