My First Game Back!!!: Part 3

The first 5 minutes were a bit spastic and awkward, but we soon settled into the game and then took over.  By the end of the first half it was 6-0 FC Gold Pride and we had scored some very entertaining and impressive goals.  I have never really played in the high midfield position, but I liked it.  I got to go forward, help on defense, see the ball a lot, score, and do my favorite thing, pass.  Not to mention add a few nutmegs, sombreros, back heels and 1-2 wall passes.  When the halftime whistle blew, I was thrilled.  I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face, and the coach even called me over, separate from the group to ask when was the last time I had had so much fun?  I said 5 years, but looking back, being with the National Team was at times incredibly difficult, without the levity and freedom we had last night, so not with perspective, I think it was more like 10 years since I felt that joy. It was a long wait, but well worth every second.  The small crowd that sat and stood on the sidelines because there were no real bleachers had a great time.  I know this by the way they cheered and gasped for breath when we got in the final third of the field.  The way they stuck out their hands for high fives after I scored and ran over to them, reinforced why I love the team atmosphere.
I went to bed late that night because I couldn’t stop thinking of the game, the way you think of those aforementioned presents.  But I finally dosed off.  When I woke up, all that soreness and pain I had been experiencing the previous 10 days had vanished.  I have had some great moments and memories of days on the field, and that scrimmage with my new team has to rank up there as one of my favorites.
Looking forward to seeing you at the stadium.

GO PRIDE!

Way to go Brandi! One day I’m going to get to the West coast and you’re gonna teach me one mean move. They say if you’ve got one thing you can do well, it can go a long way!

That’s awesome!  I’m truly happy for you. When you described yourself bouncing up and down in the locker room and smiling, I was also bouncing up and down and smiling.  smile  I think you did a fine job of articulating the feeling of playing again, and I appreciate you sharing this with us.

I’m hoping to come see the team play in May so I can root you guys on in person.  Can’t wait!
