In a time when cash is tight all around, even the fashion industry has to make some cutbacks here and there. But, in your opinion has fashion week been doing just that, or have designers been going a more escapist route?
Well, for one, the neon trend that has been around for a while now has been getting due justice on the runways of Michael Kors and Thakoon. Personally, I’m a little over this look, but feel free to disagree!
Understated whimsy is also making the rounds at shows such as Christopher Kane and Brian Reyes. From modern to fantastical, there was an overall theme of delicate patterns in a color scheme of black, white, and gold.
Balmain started a trend last season by reviving the big shoulders trend, and many, many designers have followed suit for fall ‘09. The 80s just can’t stay…in the 80s, can they? Though not really wearable, unless you are Mary-Kate Olsen or Kate Moss, I think Balmain has actually done a pretty good job updating this look.
There has been a considerable amount of fur on the runways for Fall ‘09. PETA’s ruffled feathers aside, how do you think this trend will fare given the state of the economy?
And of course, there’s always black. Black is, in case you were wondering, the new black. :D
More on all this later!
